A conversation with Serbian theatre critic, researcher and curator Ivan Medenica about trends in the contemporary theatre scene.
Ivan Medenica was a mentor of an international workshop for young critics, organized by the International Association of Theatre Critics together with the Varna Summer International Theatre Festival in the period 4-9 June 2023 in Varna.
Ivan Medenica (Serbia) is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, where he teaches history of world drama and theatre. He regularly publishes articles in national and international journals. He has chaired or co-chaired five international symposia of theatre critics and researchers, organized by the prestigious Serbian Theatre Festival Sterijino Pozorje in Novi Sad and the International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC). He has participated in a number of international conferences and has given guest-lecturs at Humboldt University (Berlin), Yale School of Drama, University of Cluj (Romania), as well as at NATFA “Kr. Sarafov. He has won national awards for criticism. From 2003-2007 he was the Artistic Director of the Serbian National Theatre Festival Sterijino Pozorje in Novi Sad, and from 2015 to 2022 – of the International Theatre Festival BITEF in Belgrade. Medenica is a member of IATC’s Executive Committee and serves on the editorial board of its specialized online theatre journal Critical Stages.

Member of the editorial board of “Homo Ludens” journal.
